Faber Congratulates Women Candidates Panton and Williams

The U.D.P. is gearing up for its national convention in February 2020 so this week there was a buzz of activity to met deadlines. . Albert Area Representative Tracy Panton and Beverly Williams, who represents Belize Rural Central, have submitted their names for the posts of Deputy Party Leader and Second Deputy Party Leader, respectively.  Both women are eyeing key positions within the hierarchy of the United Democratic Party and their bids for those seats come before the October twenty-fifth deadline.    This afternoon, Deputy Party Leader Patrick Faber congratulated both women for offering themselves for candidacy.

Patrick Faber, Deputy Party Leader, U.D.P.

“Because tomorrow, October twenty-fifth is the deadline for all submissions for applications for these key positions in the party, the activity this week has been high.  I expect to hear some more by the close of the day and even tomorrow, as tomorrow is the final day for those submissions.  I want to congratulate, of course, especially my two female colleagues who have offered themselves.  Firstly, Tracy Panton who has submitted her name for the post of first deputy and also Beverly Williams who has submitted her name for the second deputy, albeit that she is on Saldivar’s ticket and has declared her support for Minister Saldivar.  For me that is neither here nor there, the fact that these women have submitted their names to the highest positions in our party is a good sign and it is a symbol of progressiveness.  It is a sign that this party is embracing and welcoming women at the highest echelons of power and for me that’s a good thing.  I will say though that while I congratulate them, that should not be interpreted as my support for them, but I do believe that they are good candidates and down the road, of course, there will be a decision on my part and of course from my constituents, my delegates, I should say, in determining whether their support will go for these candidates.”
