G.O.B. Seeking Qualified Person for Contractor General Position
Belize has been without a Contractor General for almost two years and the work that the office is mandated to carry out is currently being executed by the Attorney General’s office. In order to attract possible qualified candidates, the Government amended the Act removing a specific limitation that prevents anyone who takes up the post to work in the public service after the end of his or her term. Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte says that the expectation is that applications would be pouring in.

Michael Peyrefitte
“I am hoping. I am hoping. I invited Senator Lizarraga to apply the last time. I am hoping. Please, we are begging for application because I the meantime is it my office doing the donkey work that that office does. It is a tough job. We have being that. We would gladly pass it off to a Contractor General.”
The contract of the former Contractor General Godwin Arzu was not renewed after the Senate pointed out that he had not submitted annual reports for several years.
