N.T.U.C.B. Disappointed About Delayed Draft Report on Immigration Inquiry
Two years ago, for months most Belizeans were glued to their television sets as gory details were revealed during an investigation on immigration illegalities. Tonight, there is word from the National Trade Union Congress of Belize expressing disappointment that there has not been nor is it known, when a report on the immigration inquiry will be forthcoming. The N.T.U.C.B. quotes a recent statement from the chair of the Special Senate Select Committee, Aldo Salazar, to the effect that the exigencies of his professional life as well as his personal life, have not allowed him to compete the report. The N.T.U.C.B. says that as Chair and an appointed senator, Salazar has the responsibility to the Belizean people in completing the Draft Report. The N.T.U.C.B. continues that Senator Salazar accepted that position knowing the responsibilities so that to tell the Belizean people that his professional and personal life have kept him from doing his duties, is a total disrespect and disregard toward the Belizean people, who he swore to serve without fear or favour. The unions also point out that the committee is required to determine whether, consequent on the investigation and inquiry, statutory and other procedures were complied with and to make a report in a practical and timely manner. The N.T.U.C.B. calls on Salazar to treat the people’s business with some respect and expedite the completion of the report for presentation to the Senate. Having paid for this inquiry, the people of this nation expect and deserve no less, say the unions.
