John Saldivar and His 21 Standard Bearers Supporters
This Sunday, John Saldivar will be officially launching his campaign for the leadership of the United Democratic Party and is going up against the Deputy Party Leader Patrick Faber whose intention to lead the U.D.P. have been known for a long time. Now, Saldivar is lining up the ducks and is not shy about who is supporting him. Neither, is the Prime Minister’s son, Shyne Barrow who is the U.D.P.’s Mesopotamia standard bearer. Saldivar has posted on his Facebook a flyer with the U.D.P. standard bearers who are supporting him. Interestingly, Gaspar Vega is well placed in the flyer indicating that he is making a come-back after lying low for years. Saldivar also seems to enjoy the support of Pablo Marin, Edmund Castro, Denny Grijalva, Omar Figueroa, Erwin Contreras, Rene Montero, and Doctor Angel Campos, among others. On his social media, Barrow posted that “twenty-one of us standard bearers and our three hundred and thirty-six mayors, councilors and members of the central executive support John Saldivar, Honorable Hugo Patt and Honorable Beverly Williams to take the party and country forward.” The decision to choose the next U.D.P. leader will fall on five hundred and sixty delegates. Four hundred and ninety-six delegates are chosen from all thirty-one constituencies. All U.D.P. municipal members make forty-one votes, while members of the party’s central executive account for twenty-three votes. That decision will be made in February 2020. So the question now is; who will support Faber next year?
