11 injured as van goes out of control
Last night an accident on the Northern Highway, involving three vehicles, has left eleven people in need of medical attention. Around nine-thirty in the Santa Rita area of Corozal, a van heading north crossed lanes and crashed into the rear wheel of a truck heading south in the direction of Belize City. The intensity of the impact caused the axle of the truck to break off. The van continued its roll in the wrong lane and ended up in a head on collision with a bus that was behind the truck. Eleven of the bus’ occupants were taken to Orange Walk Hospital and most of them were released. Three of them were transported this morning to the K.H.M.H. for further treatment. Mariela Eck received a fractured collarbone, Saul Chan sustained a fracture to his right arm and Maribel Campos the worst injured, sustained head injuries and trauma to the right hand and thigh. The occupants of the truck escaped without harm and those in the van, Regio and Estebio Lin, received minor injuries. Police investigations continue into the incident and the driver of the van, Regio Lin, is expected to face charges.
