Usher says Pickstock convention will be fair

Story Picture
The donation of a computer in the Pickstock division should come as no surprise during this season of heightened political activity. Bobby Usher is locked in a tense battle with Attorney General Godfrey Smith over who will be the PUP candidate to contest the 2003 general elections in Pickstock. Coming on its heels of accusations by defeated candidates of vote rigging in the Collet division we asked Usher if we can expect similar controversy in Pickstock.

Bobby Usher

“We have prepared a list which has been approved and the list has approximately 1,698 registered voters in the Pickstock division of that amount, we have 1,364 people more or less who will be on that list.”

“The list is prepared based upon the application forms that people have filled out to become members of the People’s United Party. These forms have to be presented to the executive body in the Pickstock division and it goes before a committee who decides whether that person is eligible to not to be accepted as a member of the party.”

Ann-Marie Williams

“And how do you determine who is actually eligible?”

Bobby Usher

“That is done by a common majority vote. That’s not an individual thing. First of all, a person has to have filled out the application form, he has to have been proposed by a party member in the division has to be seconded by a member of the constituency and then it goes before the committee. The community knows people, it’s the official community of the Pickstock division, and so based on that, that’s the determining factor in whether or not a person’s application for membership is accepted.”

The Pickstock convention will be held on Saturday, March thirty-first.
