Riding in back of pickup illegal but not enforced
In the wake of the overloaded pickup tragedy News 5 sought to find out exactly what the law is regarding the carrying of passengers in the back of a truck. As often happens when dealing with officialdom we got something of a runaround. No one in either the police or traffic department would comment on camera but the consensus is that carrying passengers in the pan is illegal unless the vehicle is specially licensed and outfitted with seats and an enclosure. The problem is that, like many moving violations, nobody is ever ticketed for the extremely common, though deadly practice.
