Seven young fire victims laid to rest
Outside St. Ignatius Church a community came out in large numbers to express its sympathy as funeral services for all seven children who perished in Monday night’s fire were held. Three coffins carried the remains of thirteen year-old Leticia Vasquez, ten year-old Maria, Marika eight, Christina six, Keisha four, Loretta two and nine-month old baby Anastacio Vasquez Jr. St. Ignatius students and teachers joined family and friends in the funeral procession as they paid their last respects to the six girls and baby boy. The family is left to care for their twelve-year old daughter Rosita, who was out at the time of the fire with her mother Elizabeth. The seven children who perished in their burning trailer home in the Belama phase two area of Belize City were in the care of their father, Anastacio Sr. It is believed that a candle left burning on top of the refrigerator was the cause of the fire.
