Bad cheque artist goes on shopping spree
If you’re a cashier who takes cheques or purchase orders, you might want to give Messer Belize Limited a call if someone shows up with a piece of paper with their stamp on it. Manager Andre King says someone obtained a blank Belize Bank cheque book, made a Messer stamp and went on a shopping spree.
Andre King, Manager, Messer Belize LTD.
“It started off by the Tool Shed calling us and asking for their weed wackers, but we didn’t have them, we have our own. So it turns out that somebody took our purchase order, they accepted it and they took two weed wackers from them. I then got a call from Save-U saying that somebody used a check there for four hundred and seventy-five dollars. Then Gush and Emy a cheque for cement for eleven hundred dollars and they all called us asking if we sent anybody there and we didn’t.”
“I have asked all these businesses to report it to the police and I think they did, but the police have done nothing yet. One day the lumberyard called us saying that this person was there with a purchase order. We asked them to hold the person and we called the police and because the showed up too late, we couldn’t hold the person any longer.”
King is appealing to merchants to call Messer Belize Limited at telephone 02-25327 before accepting a cheque or purchase order.
