Belize losing patience at slow pace of evacuation
The illegal Guatemalan settlers in three communities on Belizean soil have still not returned home and Belizean officials are beginning to voice their concerns. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, David Gibson, told News 5 that while the International Organisation for Migration has completed its work, the Guatemalan government has still not carried out the relocation of the residents. “Our patience is about to run out,” said Gibson, who added that Belize will express its extreme dissatisfaction to the facilitators in the ongoing negotiating process. While Gibson could not describe exactly what the Guatemalan government may be up to he emphasized that “Belize will not be pushed into precipitate action.” At newstime Belize’s ambassador in Guatemala Moises Cal, was waiting to meet with Guatemalan officials.
