Benque Viejo Housewife Wins $10,000 Shopping Spree
A family from Benque Viejo will be enjoying Christmas a little better this year because on Monday, Edita Albeno won a ten thousand-dollar shopping spree courtesy of Smart and Courts. Today, Albeno, her husband and two children travelled to Belize City to collect her prize and to choose items to take home. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

A housewife from Benque Viejo del Carmen is the lucky winner of a Smart raffle. Through a partnership with Courts Belize, Edita Albeno won a ten thousand-dollar shopping spree to take home whatever she likes from Courts. The grand prize is just in time for the Christmas holidays and is the culmination of several weeks of great prizes.

“It didn’t start off as a Christmas raffle, but after all the great minds came together we decided to do a grand raffle for a Belizean family that we would give them the opportunity to have ten thousand dollars shopping spree at Courts because it is the Belizean culture that around Christmas time, you want your home to look new. Everybody is out getting curtains, getting flooring, beyond the kitchen essentials. And so we wanted a Belizean family to start 2020 new and hoping that that family will have a new, prosperous and remarkable 2020. Every Monday, since November eleventh, we have been selecting a winner that entered this raffle through three mediums. The first was through texting in to the UWIN short code with an entry costing only a dollar. And the second medium was for any prepaid customer that spent five dollars—whether they called internationally, whether they made national calls within Belize or used their text bundles, bought bundles, bought data; whether they roamed. Once they used five dollars in any of those services, they were entered automatically into the raffle. And the third medium was for the broadband customers.”

For Albeno and her family, they are still processing the win. She has her eyes on some items, but says that her children will also be able to get a gift of their choice.

“When Miss Sabido called, as usual, we don’t believe it. I asked her if it was a joke and she said no. Well I still didn’t believe it. After she told me Miss it is real and you have to come to Belize City tomorrow, then I said, it’s real. And she said, yes it is real. When she told me that you have to dress up, I said fi what. And then you will be on live TV and I am here. So it is true and I am very excited for it. I am here with my family and I thank Smart and Courts and especially Jesus Christ because he is the one who blessed me. And you can say I am a lucky winner. Like a housewife, I will get my washing machine, a TV, my basic things. And like it is Christmas around, I will give them a little gift to my children.”
Sales Rep Melany Dunn says that Courts has some great deals for the season, which Albeno will be able to take advantage of. From TVs to furniture, electronic devices and even household appliances – the lucky winner can choose as many, once it falls within the budget amount.
