IDB offers Japan scholarships
The Inter-American Development Bank is offering scholarships for Belizeans who want to pursue their master’s degree during the 2001 to 2002 academic year. IDB Public Relations Officer William Neal filled us in on the details.

“Well the Japan IDB scholarship is one of three scholarships that the bank offers. It’s tailored to anyone who has finished their bachelor’s degree, exhibiting superior grades, and have been accepted in a masters program. In this case we are looking towards sending people to Japan, particularly to the English speaking universities.”

“Who all can apply for this scholarship?”
William Neal
” Anyone who’s a Belizean can apply. Usually the age is under thirty-five, but in exceptional cases if you’re under forty-five, you also qualify. Once you are in a developmental related field, you can definitely qualify. The idea that the bank adheres to is simply that if we want development to take place then we have to develop people as well as infrastructure and all the other things that go along with that. If people, your most important resource are left behind in the entire process, then the country as a whole does not benefit from any kind of development.”
So far only one Belizean, William Usher, has completed studies in Japan. Scholarship applications can be picked up at the IDB office at Marina Towers. The deadline for applying is April sixth.
