Shooting Leads to Police Chase
Just after midnight on Thursday, Belize City police were called to a bar on Newtown Barracks where they met forty-two-year-old Darrell Ramclam who reported that he was shot at. According to Ramclam, he was walking along Newtown Barracks when a male individual approached him, produced a firearm and fired several bullets in his direction. Ramclam fell to the ground and is currently at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he is listed in a stable condition. Police in the area heard gunshots and pursued the shooter. The pursuit led to a crash at the corner of Saint Matthew and Saint Joseph streets.

“Police who were in the nearby area, they pursued a male persons who managed to escaped. Shortly afterwards police were notified of a traffic accident at the corner of Saint Joseph and Saint Thomas Street where upon arrival the observed a maroon in color Ford Explorer and a white van with extensive damage to both vehicles. One person was detained who was driving the maroon in color SUV.”

“So that person is believed to have caused the injuries to the other gentleman in Newtown Barracks?”

“That is something that we suspect and we trying to link at this moment.”

“In the maroon vehicle, is that the only person who was in the car, the person detained?”

“…two persons inside of the vehicle.”

“Motive?”

“We have not established a motive up to now.”
