A Belize City Resident & a Hattieville Minor are Charged for Home Invasion in Corozal
Two of three alleged burglars, including a minor from Hattieville Village, have been charged in connection with the burglary of a house in Santa Rita Layout, Corozal District. Police say that their investigation has led them to arrest Avery Bain of Belize City and a minor for the crime, which occurred on Friday night around eight o’clock at the home of Nancy Chable. Reports are that Chable, who was not at home at the time, was alerted of the burglary in progress. She called her common-law husband and they got home to find three burglars inside. Several shots were fired from the husband’s licensed firearm. The burglars escaped with an assortment of items and cash by jumping the fence to the property. Police were called in and the investigation quickly led them to the suspects. Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvett says that the investigation is also showing that there was collusion by several other persons, who may also be charged.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“Sometime around 11 p.m., police were called to the home of Nancy Chable in Santa Rita Layout, Corozal Town, where it was reported to them by Miss Chable that sometime after eight p.m., she was alerted that some persons were inside her home, as she was not at home at the time. As a result, she made contact with her common-law husband and they proceeded home where upon arrival, she entered and observed three dark complexion male persons inside her home ransacking her house. As a result, she shouted for help and in so doing, her common-law husband came around and observed those persons and fired several warning shots into the air in order to alert those persons that they were home. As a result, those persons fled the scene, making good their escape. They observed that a number of items were stolen including cash and other personal items. Police investigation has led to the detention of two persons so far, one being Avery Bain, nineteen years of a Belize City address, who has since been arrested and charged along with a seventeen-year-old minor of Hattieville for the crimes of burglary and handling stolen goods. During the course of the investigation, several other persons were detained whom we believe colluded with those persons in committing the crime. So it is still an ongoing investigation and I must also say that a number of items were recovered from those two persons who have so far been charged.”
