Over 2000 Births at the K.H.M.H. in 2019; 55% by C-Section
On Thursday, we introduced you to a set of babies born on the first at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for 2020; five to be exact, which included a pair of twin boys. There are still outstanding numbers from the other public health facilities in the districts as well as private hospitals as to the total number of babies born in 2019. But the statistics on child births for the past year at the K.H.M.H. show that over two thousand babies are born annually; fifty-five percent are delivered by surgery. Communications Manager at the K.H.M.H., Tylon Tillett, shares some details.
Tylon Tillett, Communications Manager, K.H.M.H.
“At last count, we estimated that over two thousand babies are born at the K.H.M.H. per year; fifty-five percent of those births are by c-section. Being the national referral hospital and the nature of what we do, if there is a difficult pregnancy out in the district, they are ambulated here or referred to here during the process of registration. So if you are a mother that is going to have a high risk pregnancy, you will naturally be referred to the K.H.M.H. So that’s what put our numbers at that height, at fifty-five percent, by c-sections per year.”
