Mike Peyrefitte Pursues U.D.P. Chairmanship Ambition
The leadership race for the United Democratic Party continues to intensify as the date for the national convention draws nearer. Contesting the post for chairman is Michael Peyrefitte. The attorney general, a ranking member of the party, has lost on previous occasions in several attempts to become an elected area representative. This time, he is offering himself as candidate for chairmanship but will be facing several other hopefuls to fill that vacancy. This evening we asked Peyrefitte for an update on his campaign efforts with delegates of the U.D.P.
Michael Peyrefitte, Chairmanship Candidate, U.D.P.
“Well the campaign steps up now. It’s just over a moth that remains and so everybody has to be on all cylinders, firing on all cylinders to ensure that we can reach the delegates and convince them that we are the proper people to hold the positions that we are campaigning for. I’m going for chairman. I believe I will make a good chairman and so as we see the delegates over the next month, over the next couple weeks, we have to make that pitch and hopefully if I would be so fortunate they would elect me the next chairman of the U.D.P.”
Isani Cayetano
“How different is this time around considering the fact that on previous occasions you’ve offered yourself for public office and have been unsuccessful? You’re offering yourself now for the chairmanship of the ruling party, is there anything different in terms of your approach or the reception of the delegates towards your campaign?”
Michael Peyrefitte
“No, well the reception has been great so far for the chairmanship. The difference is when you’re going for a constituency you have to convince people, the U.D.P.s who live within that particular constituency to vote for you to represent them.”
