Major Movements in the Judiciary?
The Supreme Court’s January session is set to begin later this month on January thirteenth, but in the year ahead, the bench is facing a void. At next week’s sitting, Cabinet is expected to hold discussions on major movements in the Judiciary. First, Chief Justice Kenneth Benjamin is reaching retirement age and so is Justice Courtenay Abel whose contract is coming to an end. Third, Justice Shona Griffith is moving on to the Barbados Supreme Court. So what does this mean for the Supreme Court? Off camera we are told that a decision has not been made, but two justices could be requested to remain on the bench at the court.
