Southside chase ends in capture
On Thursday’s newscast we reported that a student of Wesley college shot one Daniel Faber, near his home on Dickenson Street in Belize City. Although police have arrested seventeen year old Leslie Rogers Jr. and charged him with grievous harm and use of deadly means of harm, the matter apparently didn’t end there. Rogers’ friends allegedly returned to Dickenson Street seeking to wreak more havoc. At 9:00, two assailants on bicycles fired shots at three men in the yard next door to Faber’s residence. As it turned out, the three men were actually policemen looking for a gun believed to have been discarded in the area. The officers returned the fire and loosed warning shots in the air and ordered the suspects to stop. They did not and police pursued the men to Mex Avenue Bridge where they ended up shooting sixteen year old Errol Haynes, a student of Wesley College, in his right leg and backside. The other suspect, Allan Kelly, jumped into the canal in an effort to escape, but did not succeed. The police recovered a sawed off shotgun and charged both Haynes and Kelly with three counts of aggravated assault and possession of a prohibited firearm.
