Opposition Leader says G.O.B. Should Have Addressed Judges’ Retirement in 2019

In 2020, five justices of the Supreme Court will step down including Chief Justice Kenneth Benjamin. These justices will be reaching retirement age and vacancies are being advertised for these posts. The Prime Minister is expected to meet with CJ Benjamin in the near future to pave the way forward since there is a possibility that the CJ may be asked to stay on the bench. Opposition Leader John Briceño says the government is scrambling for replacements a little too late.

“Again it shows you the incompetence of the Government. They knew this from last year. Now you are telling me that when they are about to step down they are going to be scrambling. It makes you question, is that either they are so incompetent? Or there is some plan behind it that the government, they are going to leave it for last minute so that they can put whatever judges they may want. I don’t l know but it makes you question. They should have addressed this issue from last year when they know it was coming. It is an incompetent and corrupt government that we are dealing with.”
