Several Persons Questioned but No Charges for Murder of 16-Year-Old
On Monday, we reported on the first murder of this year. Sixteen-year-old, Samantha Conorquie, was gunned down outside a house in Belize City where she had spent the Christmas holidays. The minor was on her phone when a gunman opened fire last Friday night. Today, police told the media that they have questioned several persons but haven’t been able to make an arrest so far. Here’s more from Superintendent Alejandro Cowo.
Supt. Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Eastern Division
“There have been a number of persons detained. They have been interviewed and released because there isn’t sufficient evidence to charge anyone so far.”
Andrea Polanco
“Have you guys been able to determine the motive of that murder? Do you know why she was killed?”
Supt. Alejandro Cowo
“No, that is something that we are trying to work with family members and other neighbours in the area but we haven’t gotten an exact motive as to what led to her death.”
Andrea Polanco
“Did she have a boyfriend or perhaps a common-law partner and is he a part of the investigation?”
Supt. Alejandro Cowo
“We have spoken to her mother and other friends. The information that we received is that yes probably she might have had a boyfriend but I don’t believe that he has been in custody as yet.”
Andrea Polanco
“Are we looking if there is a connection between her killing and anything from his background?”
Supt. Alejandro Cowo
“That is something that we are looking at and as I mentioned, the investigation has led to many persons being detained and released and we still have other persons that we are seeking at this moment.”
