Prime Minister Shocked that Chamber’s Request not Fulfilled
Prime Minister Dean Barrow says that he is surprised that the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry has not received documents it had requested. The request was in respect to the Coastal Highway contract which was awarded to Imer Hernandez to the tune of one hundred and thirty million dollars. Hernandez has won several contracts with G.O.B., but the quality of his work is being questioned. When asked about it in December 2019, PM Barrow said that the Chamber would be provided with the information but as the Attorney General explained the Chamber did not properly invoke the Freedom of Information Act. Today, PM Barrow told the media that he can’t believe that the Chamber’s request has not been fulfilled.

“I discussed the matter with the minister and we were clear that those things are to be handed over. There is nothing to hide. I am shock to hear that they have not been handed over and I will as soon as I as I leave here check on that. I can’t believe it.”
