Julius Goes In on John Saldivar

Julius Espat

Minister of National Security John Saldivar was not present in the house this afternoon when Cayo South Area Rep Julius Espat took square aim at him for his open affiliation with nefarious figures who have since been imprisoned.  Those persons include William “Danny” Mason and now Lev Dermen.  In referring to the security minister’s associations, Espat used an old Spanish adage that he says was taught to him by his grandmother.  He also goes on to say that specific crimes, including the landing of drug planes, have increased under the current Minister of National Security.

Julius Espat, Area Representative, Cayo South

“Mr. Speaker, my grandmother used to say “Dime con quien andas y… quien eres.”  And that comes to mind when I reflect on the honorable member from Belmopan who is the Minister of National Security.  It roughly translates, “Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are.”  There’s another phrase Mr. Speaker, “Birds of a feather flock together.” Mr. Speaker, every time somebody that is corrupt comes into the Belizean national TV scene, it is always a person that is friendly to the Minister of National Security.  They eat together, they play together, they fly together, I wouldn’t want to talk about they sleep together, I wouldn’t know about that one.  They do everything together and then all of a sudden and every single time the response is, “I don’t know.”  I see you’re smiling Deputy Prime Minister.  Mr. Speaker, statistics show that there are more types of crimes committed under the watch of this Minister of National Security and Home Affairs, statistics show that.  Mr. Speaker, there are definitely more drug planes landing under his watch. Statistics show that.”

During today’s house meeting, the prime minister also announced that he had identified the new contractor general. He is architect Omar Mitchell and we will have more from the House on Monday’s newscast.
