Prime Minister Barrow: Still No Evidence of Wrongdoing

The allegation of text messages between Jacob Kingston and John Saldivar as court exhibits prompted reaction from Belmopan. The PM did not give interview, but instead issued a four-paragraph statement this afternoon to cool down temperatures.  In the statement, the PM concludes that there is still no evidence of wrongdoing and as such, the texts do not constitute sufficient basis for him to act now.  It asserts that the exhibits do not disclose the context of those messages or even the subject matter of the texts. The PM states that “It absolutely does not constitute so much as an allegation much less provable material that Minister John Saldivar received money from Kingston or Dermen. The Prime Minister can only act if there is evidence of the receipt of money by Minister Saldivar or some other improper or incriminating act.  If the Prime Minister would move against Minister Saldivar in the current circumstances and before any evidence of wrongdoing is forthcoming, that would be a gross violation of the rules of fair play and the minister’s constitutional rights.”
