Yabra tops Acros in BFL football
Good evening, I’m James Adderley and you’re locked into this latest edition of Sports Monday. Week XI of the BFL football season found Kulture Yabra of Belize City in a turf war at the MCC Grounds against Acros also of Belize City Saturday night.
For this man, Paulie Bradley, it’s a very sad day after the untimely death of his father, Touch Bradley on Friday, and respect is shown for this sad situation by both football clubs inside the Barracks. Key card had been an original Berger Laker club member. Sleep on Sydney Bradley.
Meanwhile, Acros tries to strike the first blow when Arthur “The Mob” Flowers fires at Charlie Slusher, who makes the save. It’s Acros still pushing the action when Francis “Cacass” Arzu finds himself in a one on one situation with the keeper, only he doesn’t find the goal.
Some twenty minutes in, Yabra finally gets a good look at the net, but Norman Nunez fails to fire in time. Kulture Yabra, nevertheless opens the scoreboard when “El Gigante” launches this floater to Paulie Bradley and his deft touch makes it a 1-zip ballgame.
Acros could have tied the score two minutes later, when Francis Arzu faces Charlie Slusher and again he falters in front of the goal. Downfield it’s “Gigante” with another floater from Yabra, but Norman Nunez cannot convert.
Folks we can only conclude Acros is goal-shy after failing to find the target in this attempt from pointblank range. It’s Arzu again on the firing line for Acros, and while he doesn’t score, at least he bruised the crossbar.
Just before the half expires, Norman “Tilliman” Nunez sees the opening and comes up with his eighth goal of the season to give Yabra a 2-zip lead.
In second half, it’s still Acros pressing the action and indeed they should have halved the deficit here, but comes up empty. At the other end, David McCauley tries to get in on the scoring, but stays locked out.
Acros finally breaks through when Tyrone Muschamp mounts this beautiful individual play and executes the perfect finish and we have a 2-1 score.
The end came for Acros when Nunez pilots this spotkick between the sticks to embarrass the keeper, as Yabra wins 3-1.
In other results from around the league, Builders Bandits and undefeated Juventus struggled to a 1-all draw, Metro Stars mashed up Griga Tropical 3-1, the sub-champions continue to struggle. Real Verdes extended it good fortune by taking out Caye Caulker Turquoise 4-1. Sagitun and Lazio Jumex settled for a 1-all stalemate, while Yabra Dolphins and Jube Santa Elena struggled to a scoreless draw on Sunday.
Checking the Belize District first division football competition, BDF blew out Hattieville 6-1 and Ladyville Warriors humbled Ebony Lake 5-zip. Third World hurt Raptors 3-1, while BNBS Bombers and ACS United settled for a 2-2 draw.
Turning to the Belize Youth Soccer League competition, the inaugural scheduled at Berger Field on Saturday was well attended and saw Berger Stars beat up Mahogany Strikers 3-1 at the under-13 level. At under-15, Raptors rally pass Mahogany Strikers 2-nil and in the under-17 match up, Raptors rolled pass Ebony Jr. 2-1 in a very exciting ballgame.
The big news coming out of the weekend was the BNFA inability to hold a forum at its called meeting January twentieth that was on Saturday. Apparently, the BNFA chose to lock out the media and used security forces to do that, as a result, the invited people decided they would rather go home and set it up for another day. We are going to try to get to the bottom of this for you fine folks at home, but that’s it for now.
