Cub Scouts back from El Salvador
Belize, along with five other Central American countries, was present at the first Central American encounter for Cub Scouts. The week-long camp held in San Ignacio, El Salvador had the participation of twelve local cub scouts and ten leaders. Cub Scout leader for the Wesley Pack, Cynthia Rene, says the team returned home after a successful encounter with close to one thousand of their peers.

“We only hear that cubs are all over the world, but children at this level were never taken anywhere. We always go no further than Camp Oakley. So we were glad to have this opportunity to and see a different country and to go and meet cubs from this region.”
“We were happy to be invited and we feel good that another one will be in 2003 in Guatemala. So we could plan towards outings instead of only the older boys.”
“For activities they did cookie making, puppet making, souvenir making from tying wire and one group made bird houses. They rotated, so in two days time, they all did the same thing. One group made large plastic kites, so they can put what they learned into effect for the kite contest.”
Rene says that the greatest part of the camp for the cubs was the socialization process.
