Shooter in Mapp Street Incident Linked to Robbery on Nursey Street
As we had reported on Wednesday, a shot was fired at Police Constable William Woodeye on Mapp Street in Belize City. Fortunately, he wasn’t hit, but Woodeye lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a parked vehicle. Surveillance footage from the area indicates that the shooter was one of at least two persons travelling in a dark in colour SUV. That SUV is also identified as the getaway vehicle in a robbery minutes before at a store on Nursey Street in the King’s Park area. It is believed that the robbers assumed that PC Woodeye was trailing them and as a result opened fire at the unsuspecting cop. Superintendent Alejandro Cowo says that the robbers escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Supt. Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Eastern Division
“It was about quarter to two, I believe, police responded to a robbery on Nursey Street whereby two male persons entered a business and they held the proprietors at gunpoint and they stole from them a small amount of cash. Thereafter, they fled in a black or blue in colour SUV type vehicle.”

“Sir do you know whether that gunshot was aimed at him?”
Supt. Alejandro Cowo
“What we have gathered is that police was dealing with a robbery that was taking place somewhere by Simon Lamb Street and the vehicle is suspected that fled from that location and it was the same time that Mister Woodeye was taking a turn from Freetown into Mapp Street when he came in contact with this vehicle.”
