Belizeans O.K. in Salvador quake

There have been no reports of any injuries to Belizeans as a result of the earthquake, which devastated El Salvador on Saturday. The quake, which measured 7.6 on the Richter scale, was centered off the nation’s Pacific coast, but caused extensive damage outside the capital of San Salvador. Reports are still sketchy, but according to wire service reports, there are over four hundred confirmed dead and three hundred missing, many as a result of landslides. A delegation of Belizeans scouts, which included the organisation’s patron, Governor General Sir Colville Young, has reported back that they are all safe and sound. Meanwhile, the Belize Red Cross Society has offered tracing services to the large number of people in Belize with family members in El Salvador. Those concerned should bring the full name, address, age and as much other pertinent information as possible to Red Cross headquarters on Handyside Street in Belize City. The requests can also be faxed to 02-30998. That number again 30998.
