Yabra remains undefeated

Story PictureGood evening I’m James Adderley and you’re just in time for this fresh dish of Sports Monday. Kulture Yabra of Belize City went into the People’s Stadium Orange Walk with an undefeated record facing Lazio Jumex in week nine in a battle many thought was too close to call.

It’s a real struggle for both ball clubs in the opening moments of this match-up and we’re desperately in search of some highlights.

Just for the record, Freddie Tun who was this pass intended for? Lazio Jumex takes it nevertheless.

This time downfield Lazio Jumex gets the first legitimate highlight of the ballgame and it could have been a goal, but fortune smiled on Charlie Slusher.

At the other end Norman Nunez looks to give the city a 1-zip lead, but, but gets denied by the goalkeeper. In heavy traffic Tilliman Nunez fires again looking for his seventh goal of the season and again he is denied and at the half we have a dead and scoreless ballgame.

Coming out of intermission Lazio looks for the lead off this monster shot, but it veers wide. Downfield, Tilliman deals to Paulie Bradley, had the right idea, but didn’t put on the proper pace.

Suddenly it’s Lazio’s turn to impress the scoreboard, but this kind of shot certainly won’t be able to beat Charlie Slusher. The breakthrough finally comes when Mark Leslie, fresh off the bench, stretches and connects with the right foot to give Kulture Yabra a 1-zip lead. Mark Leslie then goes for his second of the match here, but the pill inches outside the sticks and there are no helpers. It’s Yabra pressing the action now and almost makes it 2-zip off this set piece, but it doesn’t quite pan out.

Now here’s a glimpse of effortless perfection as Paulie Bradley gets the perfect feed, which he effortlessly smacks into the net for the 2-nil Yabra lead and that’s the way it ended after regulation play. Kulture Yabra remains undefeated atop the standings with twenty-five points.

In other results from around the BFL over the weekend, Builders Hardware Bandits of Belmopan bombed Caye Caulker Turquoise 3-1, Juventus of O.W. edged Metro Stars 1-nil, and Griga Tropical halted a six game skid with a 5-2 pounding of Jube Santa Elena. Sagitun blanked Yabra Dolphins 2-nothing, while Leslie Verdes and Acros of Belize City battled to a 2-all stalemate.

In closing folks, we take this opportunity to welcome the first lady of track and field in the world, Marion Jones as she tours Belize in her new capacity as Sports Ambassador. Sports Monday says nuff respect to a truly great talent.
