PM Addresses U.D.P. Unity Post Convention
While bidding farewell to the legions of U.D.P. supporters in the bleachers, the outgoing party leader reminded them that they are in good hands with his successor. He also took the time to speak on the reunification of the party as it prepares for the upcoming general elections.
Dean Barrow, Party Leader, U.D.P.
“And so, I leave you in the sure and certain conviction that all will be well, gloriously well with our party and nation. After today, we shall come back together, we shall heal the divisions, we shall bind up the wounds. We owe that to our people, we owe that to our country because we must win a fourth term and we must do so given the fact that the U.D.P. remains the only option for Belize. With all our faults, we are a good party, a great party and the P.U.P. remains a bad party, a very bad party. No one will ever be able to say to the U.D.P. what its own leader has said to the P.U.P., “Bring back the millions that you stole from the people of Belize.” Bring back all that you robbed and pillaged and plundered. So today we may fight hard, we may bitterly contest each other but after all is said and done we will kiss and make up. Ah sih Juliet and Yellowman done start. That is the tradition of the U.D.P. That is the genetics of the U.D.P., that is the DNA of the U.D.P. We are a party that time and again has overcome seemingly insurmountable odds. For such a party it will be light work to recapture the love, the solidarity and the oneness that has always characterized our United Democratic Party.”
