Cyclist heads to Cuba for training

Story Picture
Belizean cyclist Quinton “The Baddest” Hamilton leaves Belize on Monday to participate in a sports training exchange with the largest Caribbean island, Cuba. The six to eight week programme is the start of a promising opportunity for young Belizean cyclists to perfect their craft and improve Belize’s image on the world stage. Hamilton, who is no stranger to Cuba, says it’s a dream come true to train at the National Velodrome in Havana.

Quinton Hamilton, Cyclist

?For me it will benefit me in the longer run because I went to Cuba in 1998 and I see the benefit that I can gain from it. It was something I wanted to try long ago and I?ll came back and promise the country that we are going to see better performance and I?m also ambassador now for the country and I represent the Belizean ambassador in Cuba. When we come back we?ll just wait and see.?

We will wait and see how well the twenty-one year improves his times. Hamilton’s trip is one of many initiatives with Cuba undertaken in the last several years. It is still not known when President Castro will make his planned visit to Belize.
