The Fifth Annual Cocktails for Manatees

The fifth annual Cocktails for the Manatees fundraiser, organized by Programme Coordinator Jamal Galvez of the Clear Water Marine Aquarium Research Institute, is ongoing at this time at Kukumba Beach on the Old Belize Compound. For years, the manatee population in Belize has been at risk due to collisions with boaters in the Belize Harbour. There have been many interventions put in place, including no wake zones along the mouth of the Belize River and other areas where the mammal can be found. Galvez has been active in the conservation campaign and is now asking the community to once again put money where their mouths are.

Come by yourself, you will find someone there to take a drink with. So enjoy yourself while you are supporting a good cause as well. Though we are a non-profit organisation, we operate base on funding, donations and writing grants and proposals. This is one of our only local appeal where we get Belizeans or locals or people that are in Belize to come out and support a cause that promotes and support the environment of Belize, protect the thing that we as Belizeans love. So this is an opportunity to contribute and support something—while having fun, but contributing to a wonderful cause as well.”
