Chopping-Stabbing in the Capital City

Police are also investigating a domestic stabbing-turn-chopping that happened in Belmopan on Sunday night. Sometime around eight-thirty that night, police were called to a house on Custard Apple Street, where they met two persons with stab wounds and another with chop wounds. Cops say that the aggressor is a man on whom there is a restraining order. ACP Joseph Myvett gives us the details of what happened.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“Belmopan Police responded to an information about a misunderstanding or dispute at Custard Apple Street in Belmopan at the home of Curliss Nunez. Upon the police’s arrival, Oren Nunez was observed outside the fenced yard with apparent chop wounds was bleeding. What the police know so far is that, Oren Nunez, who is separated from Curliss Nunez, had arrived at the yard sometime shortly after eight p.m., armed with a knife where he inflicted stab wounds to Curliss Nunez and her current common-law-husband Eric Mejia. In the process of that, he was chopped. All three persons were removed from there and taken to the Western Regional Hospital where they are all admitted in stable condition at this time. We do know that there is a protection order against Oren Nunez who was the previous husband of Curliss Nunez. So, police are investigating this matter at this time.”

“If someone is injured, while violating a restraining order how is it handled; how is culpability assessed?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“There has to be the issue of justifiable force. An investigation is ongoing at this time. We are not saying at this point that there will be any charges, other than to say that that will be determined on the outcome of the investigation.”
