There were two murders recorded in Hattieville Village on the morning of February fifteenth. They occurred within minutes of each other and one of them within view of the police precinct in the village. Ronny Anderson was gunned down in the New Site area of the village, about three blocks from where he lived with his family. News Five has learnt that he was riding a bicycle when a gunman took aim at him. This area covered with sand is where Anderson haemorrhaged before he was rushed to the K.H.M.H.; Ronny died while receiving treatment.
“To me, he was ambushed. That is all I can say right now. I don’t really have no clue or nothing like that who did it and don’t even want to know who did it. Our family is good people so we don’t want justice or not—we’ll leave it to God.”
Anderson was no stranger to the law; he had several run-ins with police. Senior Superintendent Hilberto Romero says that several persons have been detained in connection with this homicide. He says that the investigation so far has revealed that the killer approached Anderson from behind.
Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“Around 9:50 a.m., police visited an area in the Belizean American New Site area of Hattieville where they observed Ronny Anderson, twenty-six years with gunshot injuries to the body. He was rushed to the K.H.M.H. where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Information revealed that he was riding his bicycle in that area at the time when he was approached by a male person from behind who fired the several shots causing the fatal injuries to him.”
The Anderson family has been left distraught, even though Rony’s brother says that they have come to accept that his past indiscretions may have caught up with him.
“We were not close. We had problems with each other, but I still loved him from a distance. Couple times people harassed me for him, but I still don’t take it out of him cause out of every family, yo always have a bad one. You as a person weh choose a person road so you number your own days on earth. And he wasn’t listening. So if you don’t honour your mother and your father, the Bible tells you, days will be short.”

“Regardless of, like how yo say, unu neva close, it still hurt.”
“They call me di morning and I neva expect it fi hurt me so much. I get up and tiles wet up with tears. I neva expect he fi dead so quick, so young. I still thing ih mi wah have years on earth and things work out cause a lotta people do stuff ina dehn life, dehn end up change and dehn live fi tell the tale. So nowadays everything di get caught up quick. So young men out yah have to choose wah levity for positive. My ma noh di take it easy right now cause she noh ina di country at this moment and then I have my next family on my pa side weh noh di take it easy either.”
Anderson’s brother, in his interview, references this old adage.
