Construction Workers Fall off Scaffold

Two construction workers this morning fell from a twenty feet high scaffold. It happened at a construction site on Queen Street Belize City. The men were working on what in four months should be the Belize Heritage Plaza. Originally named Paslow Building, the Belize Heritage Plaza is part of the House of Culture and Downtown Rejuvenation Project. The men were quickly rushed to the K.H.M.H. for emergency treatment. According to Project Director John Arana, the men received major external injuries, but x-ray examinations are being carried out to ensure that they did not receive any internal injuries.

“There were two individuals that were injured, Mr. Carrillo and Mr. Sanker. They have been taken to the hospital and we are awaiting a medical report.”

Hipolito Novelo

“From witness, are you able to say what happened?”

John Arana

“We will await the investigation because the Social Security and insurance companies have to do their investigation. We don’t want to prejudice the gentlemen.”

Hipolito Novelo

“In terms of their status, how are they doing at the K.H.M.H.?”

John Arana

“From the reports we have they are in reasonable health and they are being reviewed by doctors at x-ray and the normal triage that is done.”

Hipolito Novelo

“Are you able to say what type of injuries that they receive?”

John Arana

“One of them, there was a scrape in the chest area and the other one no external injuries, but an x-ray is being done to confirm that internally there was not any damage.”

Hipolito Novelo

“And they fell from how high?”

John Arana

“It is the second floor so that height would be between fifteen and twenty feet.”
