Body identified; swimmer died of drowning
The body found floating near Fort Point on Friday has been identified, but police are still not certain of the details surrounding the drowning victim’s death. Twenty-year old Christopher Lawrence was last seen by his wife Lisa the night of Wednesday, December thirteenth. She had two days earlier given birth to their daughter and moved up to Ladyville to be near her mother. He remained at their home on Usher Street in Belize City. Lisa first heard the news on the radio.
Lisa Lawrence, Wife of Deceased
“I didn’t know he was missing, but I knew the description fit him because they said he was of East Indian descent. The height, age and the clothes that they described he was wearing was what I last saw him in. The tattoo that they said was on his wrist was his initials, so I knew it was him.”
“I guess any good swimmer can drown; regardless if they are good. That was one of his hobbies and he loved to swim. I don’t understand how it happened or when it happened, but I do believe that was the case, he died of drowning. I don’t think anybody did that to him.”

“Did anybody go with him, have you been told?”
Lisa Lawrence
“No I haven’t heard anything. People say they saw him before it happened. He didn’t have enemies, he mostly kept to himself and his family.”
In case you’re wondering why Christopher Lawrence was found fully clothed if he went swimming, Lisa says it was his habit to swim with his clothes on. The current in Belize City flows to the south, so he could have drowned anywhere north of Memorial Park.
