P.U.P. Prepares for Anti-Government Demonstration

On the heels of a successful demonstration staged by the unions, this Sunday the People’s United Party will descend on the Old Capital for a national demonstration against Prime Minister Dean Barrow and his government. Party supporters will convene at the corner of Fabers Road and Central American Boulevard where the march will kick off along the boulevard and into Freetown Road and thereafter into Douglas Jones Street, over the BelChina Bridge, and into downtown Belize City. The march will culminate with a rally at Battlefield Park where speeches will be delivered.  The P.U.P. says it is protesting against rampant corruption that’s plaguing the Barrow Administration and the mismanagement of the public’s money. Party Leader John Briceño says the march is expected to have the participation of thousands of Belizeans countrywide.

“Sunday is going to be a massive operation and it is requiring the work of an entire team since last week in trying to put this together. We are bringing in busses from Corozal and all the way from Toledo and across the country.”

“Do you expect a large showing?”

John Briceño

“Of course, from what we are looking at. So far we have contracted over one hundred and fifty buses. A lot of private vehicles are coming in. We feel confident when we say that we expect at least ten thousand people to come out to show their dissatisfaction, their displeasure over the corruption, incompetence and the nastiness and the dirtiness of the U.D.P. government.”

Hipolito Novelo

“What would be the central message that the P.U.P. would want Dean Barrow to hear on that day?”

John Briceño

“Well I think what it is important to say that we have had enough of the U.D.P. and the corruption and incompetence but at the same time we are letting the country know that we are ready. The P.U.P. is ready to take on the U.D.P. and to take on Belmopan and to tackle the problems that are affecting the daily lives of our citizens.”
