Woman is Raped by her Salvadoran Common-law Husband
There is another case of sexual assault of a woman in Cotton Tree Village. The victim is recovering at the Western Regional Hospital after she was raped at knifepoint by her Salvadoran common-law husband. According to police, on Friday night, a domestic dispute between the couple over the woman’s social media account sent her common-law-husband in a rage of jealousy, forcing himself on her. ACP Joseph Myvett says that the police department has contacted their counterparts in the event that the alleged rapist tries to flee the country.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“They spoke to a thirty-two-year-old woman who reported to them that earlier that night she was in the company of her common-law husband, having supper at her sister’s home and thereafter they proceeded home. There were some discussions with her common-law husband over her Facebook account and as a result, a knife was placed on her throat where she was forcibly raped. As a result, she has since been admitted to the Western Regional Hospital where she is undergoing treatment. The suspect in this case is believed to be a Salvadoran national who is being sought by police in this point in time.”

“Is there anything to suggest that maybe he has fled the country?”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“We are looking into that possibility and we’ve also made contact with our neighbouring counterparts.”
