Mercy Care feeds 500 for Christmas
It’s the season when it seems that every charitable organisation in Belize throws a Christmas dinner for those who may not otherwise have one. Today the SJC Gym was the only venue big enough to hold what must be the biggest meal of the year.

While some enjoyed a good workout, hundreds of clients of the Mercy Clinic and Kitchen sat down together to enjoy an early Christmas dinner.
Marva Nicholas, Administrator, St. Joseph Mercy Clinic
“Today we have catered to five hundred of the guests that normally use the centre, which provides health services and human and nutritional services on the Kitchen. Today marks the end of our programme for the year 2000 and this event is an annual, traditional Christmas dinner with some entertainment, fun activities and just the staff and volunteers coming together to socialize with our people.”
Brenda Pascasio, Co-Director, Mercy Kitchen
“We’re serving the traditional turkey dinner today and we are having cakes for dessert along with some cup cakes. For entertainment, we have Ozzie the clown and Neal Hall who’s the emcee. He’s doing a wonderful job of getting the people excited. We have musicians from St. Martins Parish who will be helping us with the caroling and the singing and a little dancing, and we have gifts that we will give out at the end of the day.”

The event was pulled off with the donations from the business community, volunteers, and students from the Center for employment training, who served as waiters.
