Corozal Town Gets 19 High Definition Cameras
Corozal Town Council inaugurated the installation of nineteen surveillance cameras in the town on Wednesday. Since last year, the Council and Belize Police Department have been working to set up the municipal surveillance system. The high definition cameras have been installed at key spots around the town to serve as an added layer of security for residents. Here’s a look at the launch.
Dennis Lopez, Deputy Officer in Charge, Corozal
“We conducted surveys jointly with the Town Council and we looked at hotspots where we believe the cameras would be useful to us. That will enhance our capabilities within town to deliver better service to the community of Corozal.”
Rigoberto Vellos, Mayor, Corozal Town
“These extra eyes will help to monitor key areas of the town and will help to identify individuals involved in crimes. The municipal surveillance camera system will also assist our transport department when the need arises. To achieve this, we have partnered with a Belizean owned private security company, the Belize View, who donated twelve cameras which is a huge investment costing twenty-five thousand dollars. I can proudly say now that we have a total of nineteen cameras that were installed in key spots. We reached out to the business community be involved in this process and they assisted to purchase five cameras.”
