Police increase presence for holiday season
As Christmas draws nearer the police have tightened up on security to make this yuletide season as safe as possible. On December first, The Belize Police Department launched its annual anti-crime campaign, but just as they are working harder, they’re also calling on members of the general public to do their part to make Belize a safer place.
Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer
“Every year the Police Department usually launch the anti-crime campaign because we know that during the festive season crimes usually rise. But for this year we decided to launch this campaign as of December first, as we did, and our aim is to keep crime at a minimum. In this campaign, the Ministry of National Security has authorised the Belize Defence Force to support the police in our efforts and so countrywide Belizeans could see a heavy presence of police and BDF soldiers patrolling the streets in the city, towns and villages. Hopefully the ministry’s efforts to keep down crime as well as the trend of crime will be foreseen and we can keep it to a minimum.”
The police youth corps will also be working the streets during the holiday season to distribute tips on how to avoid being a victim of crime.
