Post office inaugurates EMS

Story Picture
With a little over three weeks to go before Christmas, Belizeans will soon be rushing to mail their last minute cakes and gifts to their loved ones abroad. If you’re one of those procrastinators, not to worry, the newly inaugurated EMS or Express Mail Service offered by the General Post Office is sure to come in handy. Postmaster General Compton Hinkson, says he’s optimistic that EMS will take off as the public becomes aware of the service.

Compton Hinkson, Postmaster General

“The response from members of the public is good and it is a good indicator that as the service progress and grows it will get better and better. We had some thirty-five items sent off up to now, which were delivered within two or three days time as we predicted.?

?Would you like to make a special appeal for Christmas season, it?s already the first of December??

Compton Hinkson

?We have a special promotion right now to the United States, so if you want to send anything weighing up to two pounds quickly, you can use the service. This promotion is fifty dollars for two pounds or one kilo. After January it will go to fifty dollars for the first half-kilo, which is one pound. But you could get it now for two pounds at fifty dollars.”

Hinkson says parcels can be mailed during the post office’s regular opening hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. However, depending on the quantity of parcels received during the holidays, those hours might be extended.
