63-Year-Old Woman is Murdered on Lake Gardens Road

Carolyn Joan Arnold

A sixty-three-year-old grandmother was stabbed to death and her semi-nude body was found this morning. She has been identified as Carolyn Joan Arnold of Lake Garden’s Road off the Philip Goldson Highway. Prior to her brutal stabbing, Arnold had visited a friend on Monday night.  A resident made the gruesome discovery around seven this morning and called the police. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

There was a gruesome discovery this morning on a dirt road off the Philip Goldson Highway near mile thirteen. The partially nude body of an elderly woman was discovered on the side of the road near an illegal dumpsite in the area just after seven a.m. today. She has since been identified as sixty-three-year-old Carolyn Joan Arnold, who was last seen alive around nine o’clock on Monday night as she left from a friend’s house in the village.

“Police received information of a female body which was sighted on a road in the Lake Garden area near the M&M construction site. As a result, police visited the scene where they observed the motionless body of a female person lying face up on the street side with an apparent injury to the body.”

Carolyn was killed less than a mile from where she lived on the Lake Gardens Road. It is not known where she went after leaving her friend’s house. A resident, whose relative discovered the body this morning, says that around midnight her dogs were alerted by suspicious activity in the area. She later heard a vehicle speed off.

“This area is really isolated.”

Voice of: Evangelina Jimenez

“Yes. Lotta bush around and no house deh round dah side back ah di road.”

Police do not suspect robbery as a motive because Arnold’s cellular phone, jewellery and eyeglasses, as well as other personal belongings were found on the scene.  Investigators say that tests will also be done to determine if Arnold had been sexually assaulted. So who could have done such a callous act against the elderly woman?

Reporter

“Do you believe that this may have been a crime of opportunity?”

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“We are not sure as her belongings were found with her. At the scene, the police found a cell phone a gold chain and her eyeglasses.”

Reporter

“You said that the body was found partially nude. Is there any evidence of sexual assault?”

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“Not at this moment. We have to wait until the doctor conducts an examination of the body. We are interviewing the family members at this moment so that we can establish the exact motive as to this incident as that is all the information that we have up to this time. We know that she resides in the Lake Garden area by herself and the last time that she was seen was sometime last night when she left from her house.”

Police say that there are no suspects at this time. Duane Moody for News Five.
