Park renamed after well-know citizen
An outstanding Belizean in his own right was honoured this afternoon by the community he helped to build. Ann-Marie was at Cinderella Park for the ceremony.

A handful of Belizeans, mainly family, friends and former co-workers of Noel “Fargo” Ferguson gathered at Cinderella Park in Baymen Avenue in Belize City to rename the park in his honour.
Ferguson was a father, husband, printer, footballer, and a man who enjoyed the camaraderie of other men. He was fondly remembered today on the first anniversary of his death by many, among them his daughter Michelle.

“It’s an honour for us. His memory will remain in all our hearts. It’s a bitter-sweet situation here because I’d rather have him here than to have a park in his name, but we’re grateful.”
The family is also grateful to the Belize City Council, which made the dream a reality; although such a gesture is a relatively new concept for the council.

“Let’s look at recognizing our own people instead of looking outside. I think it’s a trend that will continue from here on.”
And from here on Ferguson’s daughter would like to see the community take pride in the Noel Ferguson Park.

“If you know the man, you will know he’s very respectable and he is full of love. When you came here we want that to be revealed by keeping it as clean as possible and contribute in any way you think possible. It’s in his name and he was a remarkable man, very remarkable.”
