Thanksgiving dinner honours Sr. Cecilia
This afternoon the fifty residents of the Sister Cecilia home for the elderly in Belize City were treated to a special Thanksgiving dinner. The activity is held every year at the home by the Mercy Sunshine Group. However, this year in addition to enjoying a meal of rice and beans, ham and turkey, the participants paused to remember Sister Cecilia Esquivel. Sister Cecilia, who died last March, was an early leader in improving conditions for Belize’s senior citizens.

“Today is a very special day because it is the Feast of Saint Cecilia. Last year at this time, Sister Cecilia, who was the patron was the patron of the home, was terminally ill. She made the effort to come here and to be with the residents one last time for the Thanksgiving celebration and to celebrate the Feast of Saint Cecilia. She also handed over her sunshine group, which comes here every month to celebrate and be with the residents, to Sister Mary Francine of the Mercy Sisters. So it’s a special day of remembering the wonderful person that she was and all that she accomplished for the older people in this country.”
