“Well it’s different, and that?s what excited me about the programme. It introduces new experiences for me and above all it allows me to contribute substantively, I hope, to the development of our country. In private sector experiences you didn’t get that idea that you’re contributing directly and able to make a direct impact on issues that affected our country.”

“Immediately apparent with the Housing Department is the need for some improvements for security and custody, so that is the immediate priority. In the long run, I’d like to see efficiencies introduced in the administration of the prisons that will allow for it to realise of its dual purpose of custody and rehabilitation.”

“Housing, specifically we’re looking at improving the value for money relationship that exist for the customers of the department. Specifically irrespective of how much money you spend, we want you to be satisfied with the quality of the work. So it’s looking at the efficiencies of the department again to ensure we can arrive at those objectives.”

Cleland holds a bachelor’s degree in management and a master’s in organisational management. She has eight years experience in the private sector at BTL, where her last job was as marketing manager.
