Money missing from Medical Department
A burglary at the old Belize City hospital has left the Medical Department short of over twenty one thousand dollars. The money was left in the accounts office when some of the medical staff did not collect their salaries on October twenty-seventh. When Finance Officer Hugh Broaster returned to the office on Monday, he noticed that a tape recorder and a microwave oven were missing. After inspecting the iron safe that contained the cash, the money was also discovered missing. The theft is suspected to be an inside job because the safe was locked before and after the crime was committed, which means that the culprit probably had possession of the key. The police have recovered the tape recorder and microwave on the hospital compound, but not the cash. Keeping money in the safe over the weekend was a regular practice of the Medical Department’s accounts section.
