What About Repeat Violators of the State of Emergency, Curfew?
Police are under scrutiny for the way some have been conducting arrests during the state of emergency. One resident told News Five outside the courthouse on Monday that he was on his way to the mechanic shop when he was picked up by the police and charged. When he appeared before the magistrate, he pleaded guilty to the offense and says he was slapped with three thousand-dollar fine. ComPol Chester Williams, over the weekend, suggested that repeat offenders will be sent to prison.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“If it is that you are a repeat offender, then your actions as far as I am concerned is reckless. You have no regard for the lives of others because you are not only putting your life at risk, but you are also putting the wider populace at risk. And if it is that you are so reckless in your behaviour, then we must find somewhere to put you with a view that you would not endanger the lives of others.”
Duane Moody
“The prison? That was one of the suggestions that you made.”
Chester Williams
“I would suggest the prison or a different location that would serve as good as prison. And so if we have to look at some other location that would be able to do the job then we do that. But I think that certain people who have no regard for the regulations or measures imposed by the government should be put away.”
