Mini mall opens in Corozal Free Zone

Since the Commercial Free Zone opened in 1995, it has been expanding very rapidly. Today approximately sixty trucks and over three thousand cars enter the compound daily. Shoppers are mainly Mexicans from the State of Quintana Roo, although it is open to all foreigners. As a result of the enterprise about nine hundred jobs have been provided to Belizeans. A newly constructed multi-million dollar investment promises to bring more benefit to the zone. The Mirage Plaza comprises of a mini mall of twelve stores. The mall was designed by a Belizean architect and constructed by Belizean workers. While seven of the twelve stores are already open for business, the others are leased. According to the mall’s owners, Arun and Anil Hotchandani, the building is an example of his families’ Belizean ties and confidence in the country’s economy. The Hotchandanis say the Mirage Plaza is only the first of three projects they plan for the Zone. The second mini mall of fourteen stores will be completed in December and a third in April of next year. The New mall was officially opened by Deputy Prime Minister, Johnny Briceno.
