Archives Department celebrates 35 years

Story Picture
The Belize Archives Department is celebrating its thirty-fifth birthday. In honour of this occasion, a number of activities are taking place to mark the event. They include radio talk shows and a weeklong open house where the public, especially students, are being invited to come in and view the many documents that are available on our national heritage. Speaking at ceremonies held this morning, Cordel Hyde, Minister of Education said because young people more than ever need to have access to knowledge of our history, it would be beneficial that there be a partnership between the University of Belize and the Archives Department. The oldest document available in the National Archives dates back to 1771. The department is located on Unity Boulevard in Belmopan.
