When Will School Reopen?
When will classes be re-opened? That’s the question parents, teachers and students are asking. But that answer isn’t so clear cut at this time. As you know there are a number of restrictions that have been placed on the country as we remain under a state of emergency and curfew in place. Today, during the Ask the Experts webcast, Director of Health Services spoke on that matter after viewers posed that question.
Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services
“When will students be able to return to school? The short answer is we don’t know. Up until next weekend, or next eight to ten days is when we can start looking at the numbers and see whether we can make that recommendation and also follow what other countries are doing in terms of opening up. At yesterday’s meeting with PAHO, some of the Spanish colleagues from Spain were sharing about how they have gone on with eventual opening up of facilities and they themselves acknowledge that they don’t know when the ideal time to open is. So, that, countries will have to make individual decisions about how you go about opening it if you ever go back to a normal school calendar. Because it might be that your school classrooms are spaced out; you come in one day for the week; and many are going to have to be addressed and we are learning as we go along.”
